Katniss Cowl Reworked

Latest project: Katniss cowl! Thanks to http://lollyknits.com/2013/11/05/the-katniss-cowl-revealed/ for the inspiration and rope/crocheted neck idea.

As usual when using any sort of pattern or following a set plan, it's impossible for me not to deviate. Instead of knitting down from the neck as LollyKnits does, I knit two separate strips for the circular top, two triangular pieces (a small one across the chest, and a larger one for  the back) and a long strip (diagonally across the front).
I scrapped the whole complicated rope-y design on the back (featured in the original) because it was added weight and I just wanted this project to be FINISHED so I could wear it. I added pieces of uncarded wool and strands of embroidery thread for color, and different weight and types of yarn for texture and chunkiness. I love how shows often amp up the shoulder/mantle portion of dresses on women's clothes. It's more imposing and badass.
This cowl makes you instantly warmer, like a polar bear is hugging you. It also makes a nice little cat shelf.
